Combination Fern Bundle:
The combination bundle includes nine 4-inch pots, three pots each of our three most popular native fern species, Lady Fern, Cinnamon Fern, and Sensitive Fern.
Available Fern Species:
Lady Fern, Athyrium filix-femina. This graceful, easy-to-grow fern adds a touch of elegance to shaded gardens. It can reach up to 3 feet tall, with finely textured, feathery fronds that have a light, airy appearance. They are hardy and adaptable, thriving in moist, well-drained soil and tolerating a variety of light conditions, from deep shade to partial sun. Lady Fern is perfect for woodland gardens, woodland edges and treelines, shady borders, or as a lovely backdrop for other shade-loving plants.
Cinnamon Fern, Osmunda cinnamomea. An extremely resilient fern that loves shady, damp spots. A taller fern that can reach up to 5 feet tall, with graceful, green fronds that arch outward. In the center, you’ll find unique, cinnamon-colored spikes, which give this plant its name. It does best in acidic soil and can handle a bit of sun if kept moist. This fern is perfect for adding natural beauty to shady gardens or near ponds and streams.
Sensitive Fern, Onoclea sensibilis. A tough, low-maintenance fern that thrives in shady, wet areas. Gets its name because it is sensitive to frost, with fronds that quickly die back at the first frost late in the year. This fern grows up to 2 feet tall, with broad, light-green fronds that have a unique, almost crinkled texture. It spreads easily, making it great for filling in damp, shady spots in your garden, especially along streams and other wet, low-lying areas.
Maidenhair Fern, Adiantum pedatum. Arguably the most elegant of the native ferns, known for its delicate, fan-shaped leaflets arranged along graceful, black to dark red, glossy stems. Typically grows 12–24″ tall, forming a light, bright green, airy clusters of fronds that stands out in shaded settings. Its fine texture adds contrast to broader-leaved woodland plants. Prefers rich, moist, well-drained soil and part to full shade, and benefits from consistent moisture. Maidenhair Fern is perfect for woodland gardens, shaded borders, and protected understory plantings where its delicate beauty can shine. (Not pictured)
Royal Fern, Osmunda regalis. A bold, upright fern with a more structured, almost shrub-like appearance compared to typical ferns. It can reach 3–5 feet tall, with large, divided fronds that feel coarse and substantial. In early summer, distinctive, flower-like fertile fronds form at the tips, giving it a unique look. Thrives in moist to wet soil and part shade, and can tolerate more sun if kept consistently moist. Royal Fern is perfect for adding height and texture to woodland gardens, shaded rain gardens, and edges of ponds or streams. (Not pictured)
