Description
Dwarf-bush Honeysuckle
Dwarf Bush Honeysuckle (Diervilla lonicera) is a short to medium height native shrub that thrives in part sun to shady areas. Known for it’s uniquely attractive foliage, offering beautiful green leaves early and transitioning to vibrant yellow, reds, and maroons later in the year. Attractive flowers of buttery yellow, tubular blossoms with petals that peel back revealing longer stamen. Beyond its ornamental appeal, Dwarf Bush Honeysuckle is a valuable plant for a variety of pollinators and insects. It also serves as a host plant for the Snowberry Clearwing Moth, and is a particular favorite of other hummingbird moth varieties.
Growing only 1-3 feet in height, it prefers medium to dry conditions and is rugged and resilient enough to thrive in poor quality and rocky soil. It’s an excellent choice for filling in bare spaces as a low-growing ground cover, supporting buckthorn replacement projects, or simply adding beauty to wooded areas and woodland edge plantings.
