A mixed height prairie designed for mesic and clay soils

Description

Mixed height (ranging from 3-6 ft) prairie for medium moisture or clay soils.  Contains iconic tallgrass prairie species like Big Bluestem and Indiangrass, as well as over 15 species of forbs. 
Seed mixes in our 500, 1,000, 5,000, and 1/4 acre package sizes come with native grasses, wildflowers, cover crop, and a filler (for easier spreading) all pre-mixed. Orders in 1/2 acre or 1 acre+ sizes come with grasses, wildflowers, and cover crop bagged separately for drill seeding or broadcast seeding. Species of cover crop seed will depend on the time of year the product is ordered – if you order ahead and have a delayed planting time in mind, please indicate planting season (spring, summer, fall, or winter) in a note at check out.

MNL Mesic Prairie Mix

Seed mix contents likely to vary slightly throughout the growing season. Actual seed mix composition will be listed on seed tag at time of delivery.

MNL produces premium, local origin native seed.  All of our native seed is tested for noxious weeds and certified to be of local origin.  It is also tested for germination and purity, allowing us to sell it as “Pure Live Seed” (PLS).  This assures you are only paying for viable seed.

Shipping

Plant orders placed by end of day Sunday, or earlier, will ship Tuesday. Orders placed Monday, or later, will ship the following week Tuesday. Please include any special shipping date requests with your order.

**Fall 2025 Shipping Information Update: Our 2024 live plant shipping season has concluded. Plants ordered after October 6, 2024 will be will be placed in our off-season backlog and shipped spring of 2025. Shipping usually resumes early to mid-May, weather permitting. MNL will notify you before plants are shipped. Seed and non-plant orders will continue to ship throughout the winter.

Seed and non-plant orders are processed year-round and will typically ship within 5-7 business days.

We currently ship to the following areas where our local-origin, Minnesota native seed and plant products will thrive: Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, Illinois and Eastern Nebraska.

MNL’s Statement on Neonicotinoids

We are committed to providing the highest quality restoration materials possible. We value the role our plants and seed have in the environment. To that end, we choose not to use Neonics and only use other chemicals only when necessary and/or as indicated by an integrated pest management program. This may result in plant leaves with minor feeding damage and/or the occasional monarch caterpillar found still chomping on your milkweed. Rest assured that these plants will be fine; the birds and butterflies will benefit.
