Little Bluestem
Our most popular native grass for good reason. Little Bluestem (Schizachyrium scoparium) is attractive all year round. Groupings of soft green shoots in the Spring give way to beautiful bluish green stands in the Summer. Fall brings brown, copper, and burgundy colors with a shiny luster that catches the sun while swaying in the breeze. Distinct fluffy white seed heads will stick around all winter and provide food for a variety of small songbirds.
An excellent source of habitat for many different insects, pollinators, and other wildlife.
Grows well in a variety of conditions. Part shade to full sun. Moist, mesic, and even dryer soils. Deep root structures provide excellent erosion control and drought resistance. Grows 24-36″ in height.
