An update from Butch Murphy, Red Rock Fire Chief Operating Officer:
Red Rock Fire and the Minnesota Native Landscapes Crew had great success during the 2017 spring prescribed burn season. With the combination of resources and great weather, we were able to accomplish 90 prescribed burns for approximately 1,000 acres. We had 2 crews working full time and a third crew working part time on prescribed fire. We had plenty of resources and time to accomplish more projects, and we plan to double these numbers in future seasons.
Red Rock Fire has also played an integral part in the development of the Certified Minnesota Prescribed Burner Program and the formation of a Minnesota RX Fire Council. Agency leaders, vendors, and non-agency organizations have been meeting monthly for the last year, and we are hopeful that we will have the program established by the spring of 2018. The certification and council will provide standard requirements to ensure safe practices and to expedite the state and municipal permitting process.
As the wildland fire season progresses in the West, Red Rock Fire is gearing up to help out. We are always looking for good people that want to work on prescribed fire and to go on western assignments. Email info@redrockfire.com for more information.
